Job Summary
Greet patients, register new and existing patients, and check them out while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Enter patient demographics, update records in the EHR, and verify insurance eligibility to complete the billing process. Collect co-pays and balances, apply payments, and schedule appointments for walk-ins and phone requests. Call patients to preregister, confirm visits, and update pay source information. Scan documents into the electronic health record and balance charges at shift end. Enter preferred pharmacy details and perform related duties as assigned. Work under irregular hours including evenings and weekends in a dental office environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Training in medical and/or dental office and billing procedures
- Minimum of one year's experience in billing or dental/medical office
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to ten pounds
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
- Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office and other electronic equipment
- Prolonged sitting
- Infrequent to occasional walking or standing
Desired Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Medical Assisting
- Certification as a dental office specialist
- Word processing and computer experience
- Knowledge of dental terminology and coding
- Experience with medical or dental office software program
- Proficient in the use of dental practice management software
- Proficient in basic math to make simple calculations
- Accurately types a minimum of 40 WPM
