Job Summary
Patient Service Specialist in the Emergency Department at Tradition Hospital who delivers a proactive, patient-first experience across the Port St. Lucie area. Responsibilities include patient registration, visit preparation, telephone triage, insurance verification, co-pay collection, patient and record tracking, scheduling, and eligibility for interpreter services. Will recruit, enroll and educate patients on MyChart and Appointment Pass, manage daily workflow, and may float to other areas as needed. Must interact with patients and families to create a welcoming environment, follow the HEART model for issue resolution, and support a fast-paced, high-volume hospital setting with rotating weekends/holidays and potential travel between Tradition Hospital and St. Lucie West. Minimum qualifications include HS diploma/GED with 2 years of related experience OR an Associate/Bachelor degree, PC software proficiency, and basic math; preferred knowledge of medical terminology and ability to type at least 30 wpm.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance processing or customer service OR an Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree
- Working knowledge of PC window applications
- Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays
- Dexterity sufficient to operate a PC and other office equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Typing a minimum of 30 words per minute or demonstrable personal computer keyboard skills
- Insurance processing experience
- Customer service experience in healthcare or related field
- Experience with MyChart or patient portal enrollment (preferred)
