Patient Service Representative/Surgical Scheduler

Job Summary

Greet patients and family, schedule appointments, hospital admissions, and procedures, and answer telephone calls while directing callers appropriately. Prepare charts for new patients, convert temporary to permanent records, and request medical records to provide physicians with necessary information prior to exams or treatments. Monitor supply inventory, complete requisitions, and perform clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, and filing. Reconcile encounters daily, maintain confidentiality, and communicate equipment concerns promptly to the Nurse Manager. Demonstrate working knowledge of booking inpatient and outpatient services, arrange specialty equipment, and submit necessary documents for hospital procedures. Provide training to other office staff, log surgical procedures, and reschedule or cancel procedures to increase physician productivity.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must have accurate computer data entry skills
  • Must have the ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Basic proficiency in computer use
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate Degree
  • Heartsaver within 30 days of hire
  • Previous PSR experience
  • Previous office experience
  • Knowledge of medical office and terminology
  • Previous experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
  • Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems
