Patient Service Representative - Lab

Job Summary

Greets visitors, patients, and families professionally while directing them appropriately and maintaining efficient patient flow through the registration process. Answers telephone calls, takes accurate messages, and informs patients of physician schedule delays. Processes insurance verifications, posts self-pay charges, collects payments, reconciles daily collections, and updates patient accounts with demographics and insurance details. Schedules and confirms appointments, enters diagnostic test orders, and coordinates pre-authorizations with clinical staff. Performs clerical duties including faxing, scanning, and filing, while covering for other staff as needed. Works Monday through Friday with rotating Saturday shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must have the ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Basic proficiency in computer use
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects, carts, or items
  • Must be able to push and pull
  • Must maintain physical mobility including movement from place to place
  • Must have dexterity of hands and fingers
  • Must maintain balance during climbing, bending and/or reaching
  • Must have endurance for continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking
  • Must be available for rotating Saturday shifts
  • Must be available for Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm schedule
  • Must be able to work in environments with chemicals, fumes, loud noises, vibration, extreme temperatures, confined spaces
  • Must be able to handle allergens including dust, mold, and pollen
  • Must be able to work around magnetic fields and radiation
  • Must be able to handle sharps
  • Must be able to work around latex
  • Must be able to handle combative patients/visitors
  • Must be able to handle exposure to infectious hazards, blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens
  • Must be able to handle contact with patients or patient specimens
  • Must be able to handle unplanned or unexpected exposure

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate Degree
  • Previous Patient Service Representative/Medical Receptionist experience
  • Knowledge of medical office and terminology
  • Previous experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
  • Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems
