Job Summary
Patient Access Representative responsible for patient registration, insurance verification, financial counseling support, and scheduling follow-up care. Duties include greeting patients, managing patient flow, collecting demographics and insurance information, registering scheduled and walk-in patients, verifying benefits, determining financial responsibility, collecting copays and balances, performing financial clearance when applicable, identifying patients needing financial assistance, performing visit checkout, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of payer requirements and pre-authorization processes. Requires strong communication, attention to detail, HIPAA/EMTALA awareness, and proficiency with healthcare registration systems; works in a predominantly office-based healthcare setting with an emphasis on accuracy and patient experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior experience in patient access, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, billing, or medical assisting preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of Medicare, HIPAA, and EMTALA regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and healthcare registration systems (e.g., ADT)
- Ability to handle confidential information
