Job Summary
Maintain constant observation of patients in the emergency department, remaining with them to monitor behavior and status changes. Notify nursing personnel immediately of any shifts in patient condition or when leaving the room, and intervene as needed to prevent elopement. Collaborate with licensed nurses and Patient Care Technicians under direct supervision to ensure patient safety and deliver basic care. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams while adapting interactions to specific psychiatric needs. Perform assigned non-clinical duties and maintain a clean, safe environment in the patient care area.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant
- Ability to use independent judgment to monitor and respond to patient related changes in condition
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
- Ability to perform heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
- Exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
- Exposure to all communicable diseases
- Exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience with psychiatric environment
- Experience with computer data entry
