Job Summary

Monitor patients on the emergency petition with mental health diagnoses, behavioral health issues, or cognitive impairment to ensure their safety and security. Assist nursing staff in providing a safe environment for disoriented or self-harming individuals while collaborating with the care team. Perform duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including lifting patients up to 35 pounds and operating electronic medical records. Requires BLS/CPR certification, nursing assistant certification preferred, and ability to work in a high-stress environment. Shifts are 12-hour nights.

Required Qualifications

  • Nursing assistant certification preferred
  • BLS/CPR certification required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Ability to successfully complete required training and demonstrate associated knowledge and skills
  • Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, electronic medical record
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment
  • Effective eye and hand coordination
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize
  • Ability to work well and effectively communicate with individuals and teams
  • Must be able to independently perform essential job functions
  • Must be able to independently: (a) lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds
  • Must be able to independently: (b) push, pull, and move patients and patient care equipment
  • Must be able to independently: (c) bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel
  • Must be able to independently: (d) utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift
  • Must be able to independently: (e) perform fine motor skills both upper extremities
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes
  • Must be able to identify and distinguish auditory alarms in noisy environments

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility with mental health or psychiatric patients preferred
  • Possesses a broad practical understanding of life experience and the ability to relate to individuals with behavioral or mental health disorders
