Job Summary
The Patient Registrar handles check-in and admission processes for I npatient and Outpatient services, registering patients and updating demographics while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Responsibilities include greeting patients, providing professional customer service, verifying patient identifiers and insurance coverage, handling PBX/switchboard duties, directing calls, and processing various registration types (admission, outpatient, newborn, etc.). The role requires accurate data entry into electronic medical records, ensuring confidentiality, and delivering timely, courteous support to patients and hospital staff. Candidates should have strong organizational and multitasking abilities, be proficient with basic computers and EHR systems, and possess excellent English communication skills. Training and ongoing participation in required safety and departmental programs are expected.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in oral and written English
- Basic computer skills including email, navigating information technology, and using Electronic Health Record tools
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt to urgent situations
- Ability to prioritize and complete registrations accurately and in a timely manner
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of customer service experience
- Excellent telephone etiquette and customer service skills
- At least one year of clerical service experience (preferred)
- Previous medical and insurance experience (preferred)
- Vaccinations as required by policy (per DRH)
