Job Summary

Answer all incoming calls on the main telephone line, professionally assisting patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees with questions or directions. Quickly identify self and company while greeting callers, then transfer patients and guests to appropriate departments. Verify and register vendors following policy procedures, review codes regularly, and page or beep as directed. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population by respecting privacy and adjusting explanations of services or procedures. Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of customer service experience
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to remain calm, pleasant, and helpful in high pressure situations
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and with a team
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility
  • Ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
  • Immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
  • Patient/employee safety awareness
  • Patient privacy awareness
  • Compliance with Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct
  • Sedentary work capability (Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently)
  • Ability to sit most of the time
  • Ability to walk or stand for brief periods of time
  • No exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue
  • No call upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid
  • No occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases
  • Ability to work within a healthcare setting
  • No occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
