Job Summary

Patient Financial Services Representative performs patient registration (demographic data, eligibility), obtains precertification and authorizations, conducts insurance verification, and provides preliminary financial counseling to support Parkland’s financial viability. Responsibilities include greeting patients professionally, entering patient/guarantor information into registration/accounting systems, ensuring accounts are billed accurately and timely, avoiding duplicate medical record numbers, identifying non-funded/under-funded patients, referring cases to financial counseling and case management as needed, educating patients on financial liabilities, performing cash reconciliation and secure payment entry, documenting actions in account notes for interdepartmental review, and maintaining knowledge of applicable laws, policies, and guidelines. Requires multitasking in a fast-paced hospital environment and staying current with developments in the field, with a focus on patient access and revenue cycle activities (EPIC or equivalent systems, insurance terminology, and hospital operations). Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital/clinical environment, insurance company, managed care organization, or other financial service setting with patient access, financial counseling, or cashier responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and insurance terminology
  • Ability to work across multiple computer systems (registration/accounting systems, document imaging, scanning, payer websites)
  • Professional customer service skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to resolve registration issues involving multiple groups (patients, payors, physicians)
  • Knowledge of contract reimbursement, third-party payors and insurance verification preferred
  • Bilingual skills preferred
