Job Summary
Patient Financial Services Representative I performs foundational revenue cycle tasks including claim entry, payment and charge posting, and basic follow-up on unpaid claims for an entry-level role in a fast-paced healthcare setting. Responsibilities focus on accurate data entry, timely claim submission, reviewing patient accounts for billing accuracy, processing payments/adjustments from third-party payers, and identifying straightforward issues such as eligibility discrepancies and missing information. The role supports collaboration with higher-level PFS staff to build proficiency in payer requirements, billing workflows, and organizational processes, while maintaining HIPAA compliance and a documented, audit-ready account trail.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic understanding of medical billing processes and insurance concepts (copays, deductibles, eligibility)
- Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, NDC, or CDT coding structures is preferred
- Proficiency in using a ten-key calculator and entering high volumes of data with accuracy
- Strong attention to detail and follow defined workflows
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn billing and electronic medical record systems
- Effective communication and customer service skills
