Job Summary
Provide excellent customer service by evaluating uninsured or underinsured patients for state and federal assistance program eligibility under Massachusetts laws. Initiate and file applications through the virtual gateway, Social Security Administration, and other applicable agencies. Navigate patients and families through the enrollment process while advising them on financial planning for long-term care and rehabilitative services. Partner with internal departments including Social Services, Care Coordination, and Patient Care to assist with patient movement and placement. Present information at Community Benefit functions and maintain professional communication skills when dealing with the public.
Required Qualifications
- Equal to completion of four years of high school plus additional specialized courses or training
- Strong background in medical customer service work
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
- Active listening skills
- Ability to deal with the public in a professional manner
- Ability to present and inform at Community Benefit functions
- Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in billing and medical terminology
- Prior collection experience
- Preferred over three years of related healthcare advocacy
- Certified Application Counselor certification at hire or within 3 months of hire date
