Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician works under the supervision of an RN to perform basic nursing care activities, including monitoring vital signs, taking blood glucose, assisting with activities of daily living, reporting abnormal findings, and maintaining unit workflow. Responsibilities emphasize patient-centered care, communication with nursing staff, room preparation and cleanliness, prioritization and multitasking in a dynamic unit, and acting as a liaison between patient care units and other departments. Preferred qualifications include phlebotomy experience and graduates of accredited nursing assistant or phlebotomy programs. The role is full-time and night-shift within the Northwestern Medicine system, located in DeKalb, IL.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Nursing students who have completed one clinical rotation
- Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing school students with one semester of clinical completed
- CPR – Basic Life Support
