Job Summary
Patient Care Technician in the Critical Care department on the Surgical Step-Down unit, providing direct clinical and support services under RN supervision. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, supporting patient/family, and maintaining a safe, well-equipped environment; involvement in environmental/inventory tasks to support efficient department operation; requires BLS/CPR certification, ability to pass clinical competency testing, and the ability to meet basic math and computer proficiency; role may involve acute hospital patient care and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED certificate
- Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
- One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
- Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
- Completed an approved certified nursing assistant training
- Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
- One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
- Fluency in another language a plus
- Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
