Patient Care Technician Preceptor - PCT - Dialysis

Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, perform vascular access cannulation, and initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders. Monitor patients' response to therapy, obtain vital signs, and document all pre- and post-treatment evaluations on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet. Evaluate vascular access for patency, administer heparin as delegated, and intervene for intradialytic problems per physician orders. Assist patients in performing self-care under RN supervision and follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks in the Transitional Care Unit. Conduct machine safety checks, perform pretreatment alarm testing, and ensure all areas are clean and disinfected per facility policy. Act as a preceptor for new clinical staff, deliver competency evaluations, and monitor adherence to infection control practices and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by Center for Medicaid/Medicare (CMS)
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
- Attendance and active participation in all applicable preceptor training programs as established by education leadership
- Attends Fresenius and publicly offered skill-based training as assigned by Clinical Manager
- At least five years patient care experience in a hospital
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on an occasional basis up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment, exerting up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to perform the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
