Job Summary

Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Calculate and enter individual dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time. Document all treatment parameters, vital signs, and interventions on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, reporting significant changes directly to the registered nurse. Clean and disinfect machines and surrounding areas between treatments, collect and prepare lab specimens, and assist in training new staff. Follow all infection control policies and complete Continuous Quality Improvement activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
  • Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
  • Successful completion of CPR certification
  • Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
  • Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
  • Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
  • Must be available for travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Must be available for travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
