Job Summary
Patient Care Technician at WellNow Urgent Care in Rome, NY. Responsibilities include taking patient history and vital signs, performing basic screenings (vision, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, and pulmonary function testing), and, if certified, phlebotomy for lab specimen collection. Also responsible for completing paperwork for lab tests, performing point-of-care testing (strep, mono, glucose, influenza, urine pregnancy, urinalysis, glucose), maintaining sterile technique and autoclave use, coordinating records for ancillary care, assisting providers with exams and tests (including pelvic exams, eye irrigations, ear irrigations, I&Ds, splints), maintaining exam rooms and supplies, and supporting front desk tasks including insurance explanations, payments, and registration. Document medical histories and procedures accurately in the EMR, ensure HIPAA compliance, and contribute to efficient patient flow. Requires High School diploma or equivalent and relevant experience; CPR certification and preferred certifications (EMT Basic, CMA, RMA) are listed as applicable qualifications. The role emphasizes teamwork, strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced urgent care environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Degree or equivalent required
- 1+ years’ experience in a Patient Care Tech role or equivalent preferred
- EMT Basic certification preferred
- Medical Assistant certification through CCMA CMA RMA programs preferred
- CPR certification required or preferred (as applicable)
- Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods
- Detail-oriented with accuracy in documentation and procedures
- Ability to register patients and explain insurance coverage
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality
