Job Summary
Provide patient care, support activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, assist with mobility and ambulation, perform phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion/removal. Observe physical, mental, and emotional conditions, document changes accurately, and report updates to the RN nurse while complying with patient safety practices under professional direction. This 12-hour day shift role (7:00am–7:00pm) includes rotating weekends and three shifts per week at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's 16-bed Transitional Care Unit. AHA BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program
- Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
- One year of health care experience
