Job Summary
Part-time Patient Care Technician on the Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant unit (Feldberg 7) at BIDMC. Rotating 12- or 8-hour shifts, every other weekend and some holidays. Collaborates with a nursing team to provide quality patient care. Develops and maintains competencies as delegated by a registered nurse. Maintains patient safety by implementing nursing safety interventions or protective devices/equipment under supervision of the RN. Reports all patient activity to the RN in a timely manner. This role requires a High School diploma or GED, 0-1 years related experience, and preferred CNA/LNA/MA/ED Tech/EMT/PCT certificate or nursing student with clinical rotation. Completion of BIDMC in-house training program and basic computer/web-based skills are expected. The unit cares for patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, cellular therapies, and bone marrow transplantation; requires rotating day, evening, and night shifts with some weekend/holiday coverage.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required
- 0-1 years related work experience required
- Patient care experience strongly preferred through any of the following areas: CNA (or LNA), MA, ED Tech, EMT, PCT certificate or currently enrolled nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation
- Completion of BIDMC in-house training program
- Allied Health, Pre-Med, and Physician Assistant program candidates
- Home Health Aide
- Basic familiarity with computers
- Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications
