Job Summary
Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs as part of the dialysis health care team under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, maintaining a safe/clean environment, and aiding in CQI activities to support Quality Enhancement Goals. Provides patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process; assesses vascular access patency, cannulation, heparin administration as delegated, and monitors vital signs and treatment parameters. Documents treatment data, completes Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, performs pre/post-dialysis evaluations, and communicates changes to the RN or supervisor. Participates in infection control practices and routine training of staff; adheres to organizational policies and ethical business practices. Travel between assigned facilities may be required. Education/licensure requirements include high school diploma or GED and CMS/state certification/licensure as applicable. The role supports the organization’s CQI programs and aims to ensure patient safety and quality of care throughout the dialysis treatment process.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements
- state licensure, education, and training as required by state law or CMS timeline
- CPR certification (preferred or required by program)
- completion of organization dialysis training program
- continued employment contingent on successful completion of required training and CPR certification
