Patient Care Technician - PCT

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) will function as part of the dialysis health care team, under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, to provide safe and effective hemodialysis therapy. Responsibilities include setting up and operating dialysis machines, obtaining pre/post-treatment vital signs and weight, evaluating vascular access and cannulation, administering heparin as delegated, initiating dialysis per orders (QB/QD), monitoring patient response, documenting treatment data, and ensuring safety and infection-control standards. The role also involves patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM), participating in CQI activities, assisting with patient discharge planning, managing treatment sheets and lab specimens, assisting with transitional dialysis care, and supporting patient care staff under nurse supervision. Education/credentials require a High School diploma or GED and CMS/state licensure/certification as applicable, with CPR completion and dialysis training; experience in a hospital or related setting is preferred. The position requires travel between facilities, potential exposure to infectious materials, and physical tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods.
