Patient Care Technician - PCT

In a dialysis patient-care setting, the PCT participates in safe and effective dialysis therapy under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, vascular-access cannulation and patency evaluation, administering heparin as delegated, taking pre/post-treatment vital signs and weights, documenting treatment data, and ensuring a clean, safe environment. Additional duties cover patient education on adequacy measures (OLC/AMP/UKM), monitoring patient response to dialysis, addressing intradialytic problems, adhering to CQI activities and the organization’s Quality Enhancement Goals, infection-control practices, and participation in training programs. The role requires travel between facilities, adherence to facility policies, and completion of mandatory certifications and training (e.g., CPR) as part of the organization’s dialysis services.
