Job Summary
Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines, evaluating vascular access for patency, performing cannulation, administering heparin as permitted, obtaining pre/post-treatment vital signs and weights, initiating and terminating dialysis per orders, documenting treatment parameters and patient status, and ensuring infection control and environmental safety. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities and patient education on adequacy measures and disease processes. Maintains patient documentation and reports significant changes to the RN or supervisor; assists with training of direct patient care staff and supports transitions to home dialysis when appropriate. Travel between assigned facilities may be required; adheres to clinical policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Eye toward patient satisfaction and quality goals in line with organizational CQI initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D. required
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training as required
- Demonstrated CPR certification (or successful completion of CPR as a condition of employment)
