Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment by calculating machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and monitoring vital signs, weight, and intradialytic problems. Document pre- and post-treatment evaluations, treatment parameters, and interventions on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets. Clean and disinfect machines and equipment between treatments, collect lab specimens, and coordinate specimen delivery. Assist in training staff, monitor patients performing self-care, and follow infection control policies. Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks in the Transitional Care Unit, reinforcing education and coordinating care plans.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
- Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
- Successful completion of CPR certification
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
