Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Calculate and enter individual dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time. Perform all relevant functions necessary for treatment discontinuation, including hemostasis, dressing application, and patient evaluation prior to discharge. Document accurate information on treatment sheets and report significant changes directly to the registered nurse. Clean and disinfect dialysis machines and surrounding areas between treatments, ensuring environmental integrity. Assist in training direct patient care staff and monitor patients performing self-care under supervision.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training
- CPR certification
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must be able to work in a health care facility environment with moderate noise levels
- Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
- Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
Desired Qualifications
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility
