Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients and perform vascular access cannulation, administer heparin, and initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders. Monitor patients' response to therapy, obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs, and evaluate vascular access for patency. Calculate dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, document all treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets, and report any changes in patient condition to the registered nurse. Assist in training staff, maintaining a clean environment, and collecting laboratory specimens. Follows all organization policies, infection control practices, and participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must be able to work in a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels
- Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
- Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
- Must successfully complete the organization dialysis training program
- Must successfully complete CPR certification
Desired Qualifications
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
