Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, document all treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets, and report any changes in patient condition to the registered nurse. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures, disease processes, and home dialysis options, while maintaining a clean environment and ensuring infection control compliance. Follows all organization policies, participates in continuous quality improvement activities, and supports staff training under nurse supervision.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
- Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program
- Successful completion of CPR certification
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
