Job Summary

Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Calculate and entry individual dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals, ensure safety alarms are enabled, and record accurate treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures, disease processes, and home dialysis options, while maintaining a clean environment and reporting any unusual findings to the registered nurse.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • CMS-approved state and/or national certification
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training
  • CPR certification
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
  • Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
  • Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
  • Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
  • Must be able to work in a health care facility with moderate noise levels
  • Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
  • Must be able to perform direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
  • Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
