Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, perform vascular access cannulation, and initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders. Monitor patients' response to therapy, obtain vital signs and weights, and evaluate vascular access for patency. Administer heparin, discontinue treatment per established procedures, and apply appropriate dressings for hemostasis. Calculate and enter individual dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time. Document all treatment parameters on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheets and report significant patient changes to the registered nurse. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures, disease processes, and home dialysis options. Maintain a safe environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment between treatments and ensuring proper infection control practices. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for collection while completing Continuous Quality Improvement activities. Follow all organization policies, procedures, and training requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training
- CPR certification
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must be able to work in a health care facility environment with moderate noise levels
- Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform direct patient care that regularly involves heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
- Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility
