Patient Care Technician - PCT

Job Summary

Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time. Document all treatment parameters, vital signs, and interventions on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, reporting any changes in patient condition directly to the registered nurse. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes, while maintaining a clean environment and performing machine safety checks. Follow infection control policies and support staff training under direct supervision of a licensed nurse.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
  • Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
  • Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
  • Must be able to bend over
  • Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
  • Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
  • Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
  • Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
  • Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
  • Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment
  • Must successfully complete the organization dialysis training program
  • Must successfully complete CPR certification

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
