Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, and obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights. Document all treatment parameters, interventions, and lab specimens accurately on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and clinical application. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes, while maintaining a safe, clean environment and performing machine safety checks. Report any changes in patient condition or unusual findings directly to the registered nurse or supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training
- CPR certification
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
- Must be able to handle exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
- Must be able to perform direct patient care
