Patient Care Technician - PCT - Dialysis Preceptor

Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated. Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, monitor patient response, obtain vital signs, and document all treatment parameters on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet. Assist patients in performing self-care under supervision and conduct machine safety checks, reporting any changes or unusual findings to the registered nurse immediately. Support the organization's Quality Enhancement Program by participating in Continuous Quality Improvement activities and delivering ongoing competency evaluations for other PCTs. Monitor adherence to infection control practices, reinforce safety protocols through visual media, and assist in training new hires and facility staff. Follow newly admitted patients through their first four weeks in the Transitional Care Unit, coordinating care and demonstrating home dialysis setup options.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Valid PCT national certification or state specific certification as defined by Center for Medicaid/Medicare (CMS)
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Demonstrated commitment to organization culture, values, and customer service standards
- Attendance and active participation in all applicable preceptor training programs as established by education leadership
- Attends Fresenius and publicly offered skill-based training as assigned by Clinical Manager
- At least five years patient care experience in a hospital
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on an occasional basis up to 40 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment exerting up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must pass the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
