Patient Care Technician - PCT CCHT - Dialysis

Job Summary
Welcome assigned patients, perform vascular access cannulation and administer heparin, and initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders. Monitor patients' response to therapy, obtain pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weights, and evaluate vascular access for patency. Calculate and enter individual dialysis machine programming for ultrafiltration goals and treatment time. Document all treatment parameters, progress notes, and lab requisitions accurately. Assist in patient education regarding adequacy measures and disease processes, while ensuring environmental integrity and infection control compliance. Follows all organization policies and participates in continuous quality improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must meet Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS)-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
- Must be able to lift and to lower solutions on a frequent basis of up to 30 lbs., and on an occasional lift basis up to 40 lbs., as high as 5 feet
- Must be able to bend over
- Must be able to exert up to 15 pounds of force
- Must be able to push and/or pull equipment
- Must be able to perform frequent, prolonged periods of standing
- Must be able to take the Ishihara's Color Blindness test
- Must be able to travel between assigned facilities and various locations within the community
- Must be able to travel to regional, Business Unit and Corporate meetings
- Must be able to work in a health care facility environment with moderate noise levels
- Must be able to be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases/materials
- Must be able to perform heavy lifting and moving of patients and assisting with ambulation
- Must be able to perform direct patient care
- Must be able to successfully complete the organization dialysis training program
- Must be able to successfully complete CPR certification
Desired Qualifications
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or a related facility preferred
