Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Burn Trauma Intermediate Care - Med/Surg

Job Summary

Provide patient care, support activities of daily living, monitor vital signs, and assist with mobility and ambulation on the Burn Trauma intermediate care unit. Perform phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal while documenting patient conditions and reporting changes to the RN. Observe physical, mental, and emotional status to ensure patient safety under professional direction. Work two 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm to 7:00am) with rotating weekends. Requires high school diploma, current or recent CNA/NCMA certification, and AHA BLS within 90 days.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
  • Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
  • Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
  • Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Physical Therapist (PT) program
  • Current work experience within the last three years as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Nursing Assistant
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire
  • Part Time
  • Night Shift (12-hour shift)
  • 7:00pm to 7:00am
  • Two 12-hour shifts (24 hours per week)
  • rotating weekends
  • Norfolk, VA
