Job Summary
Perform clinical tasks within the Patient Care Technician scope of practice, including peripheral IV insertion, administering electrocardiograms, phlebotomy, and elimination procedures under RN supervision. Assist patients with daily activities such as hygiene, ambulation, and transfers while promptly responding to monitor alarms and reporting vital signs, symptoms like chest pain, or abnormal values. Conduct hourly rounding to ensure patient comfort and safety, document all care accurately in the electronic health record, and maintain infection control protocols. This full-time, non-exempt day shift role requires every other weekend coverage, with pay ranging from $19.00 to $30.40 per hour. You will work at Howard University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital, contributing to a patient-centered culture dedicated to culturally responsive care.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Current, active certification as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task
- Every other weekend required
Desired Qualifications
- Six (6) months or more of prior PCT experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Experience in cardiology, telemetry, or medical-surgical nursing units
- Experience caring for patients on continuous cardiac monitoring in an acute care setting
