Patient Care Technician - Med/Surg Post Surgical

Job Summary
Conduct direct para-professional nursing care, phlebotomy, and patient transportation for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Perform patient assessments, obtain vital signs, and assist with 12-lead EKGs, glucose testing, and emergency airway procedures within scope of practice. Collaborate with physicians, family, and team members to establish care goals while adhering to HIPAA, EMTALA, and Halifax Health policies. Transport patients safely and document procedures per the skills checklist. Maintain BLS certification and complete required orientations. Willingly accept assignment changes and assist in precepting new team members.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Current certification in BLS within 7 days of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situations
- Basic computer skills or ability to learn and use hospital computer
- Effective communication skills with unit staff and other departments
- Must complete orientation requirements: general hospital orientation and unit-specific orientation
- Reports to work as scheduled and conforms to working hours
- Arrives to work at scheduled starting time
- Willingly accepts change of assignments as requested
- Masters manual skills/procedures (as outlined in skills checklist)
