Patient Care Technician- Med/Surg 24 hours/week, 1st/2nd Shift

Job Summary
Answer telephone, direct visitors, and process patient orders while maintaining accurate charting and computer systems. Monitor equipment and supplies, restock units, and report malfunctions to the nursing team. Provide direct and indirect patient care under a Registered Nurse's direction, including responding to call lights and documenting observations. Coordinate referrals, appointments, and holistic patient needs through communication with providers and families. Maintain patient census, isolation status, and level of care in the hospital computer system. Work 24 hours weekly across the 1st and 2nd shifts at Waverly Health Center.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successfully completed a minimum of Nurse Aide I course and competency exams
- Listed as eligible for employment on the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry (Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Health Facilities Division)
- Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system
- Proficiency in required computer functions
- Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English
- Must possess knowledge of medical terminology
- Completion of Nurse Aide II course
- Must use, and require staff to use, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds
