Patient Care Technician II - Full Time, Day Rotation, Short Procedure Unit

Job Summary

Perform direct and indirect patient care activities under licensed clinical supervision while monitoring EKGs, recognizing hemodynamic instability, and managing aggressive behavior. Execute advanced skills including IV insertion with ultrasound guidance, phlebotomy, lab specimen collection, and central line setups. Act as a resource and mentor for safe patient handling, de-escalation techniques, and equipment training for new staff. Maintain a safe environment and assist with unit supplies and equipment operations. Work M-F 4-hour shifts in the Short Procedure Unit at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years Nursing Assistant, PCT or healthcare experience
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association
  • CPCT - Certified Patient Care Technician - National Performance Specialists
  • Ability to recognize and monitor individual patient's EKG
  • Ability to recognize and report hemodynamic instability and critical changes in patient condition
  • IV Insertion competency including IV insertion using Ultrasound guidance
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen collection including T&S, Blood Cultures
  • Competency regarding use of advanced medical equipment such as splinting, advanced rehab therapy equipment, trauma care, IABP, rapid infuser, central line and A line set ups
  • Skills regarding management of aggressive behavior and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to act as transfer and positioning coach/trainer for specific patient populations
  • Advanced skills in bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization
  • Ability to act as resource/mentor in the area of safe patient handling/de-escalation techniques/point of care testing
  • Ability to act as a coach/trainer to others team members
  • Ability to act as a coach/trainer to others following formal training guidelines
  • Ability to act as a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs
  • Ability to act as resource for training new staff on various supplies and equipment use
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate knowledge and advanced skills
  • Ability to recognize the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values
  • Ability to communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson
  • Ability to actively promote and maintain a safe patient care environment
  • Ability to provide assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment available to ensure efficient unit operations
  • Ability to work M-F 4 10hr shifts
  • Certification and completion of advanced skills and knowledge training within six months of hire (accepted in lieu of experience requirement)
