Job Summary

Perform advanced direct and indirect patient care activities under licensed clinical team direction, including IV insertion with ultrasound guidance, phlebotomy, lab specimen collection, and advanced equipment management like central line setups. Monitor individual patients for hemodynamic instability and critical changes, maintain EKG competency, and provide bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization. Act as a resource and mentor for safe patient handling, de-escalation techniques, and point-of-care testing while training new staff on supplies and equipment. Support the interprofessional team by promoting a safe environment, assisting with unit operations, and coaching colleagues on transfer and positioning for specific populations.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • PCT or related certification (Certified nursing assistant)
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing assistant, PCT or healthcare experience
  • AHA BLS certification
  • Completion of advanced skills and knowledge training within six months of hire (accepted in lieu of experience requirement)

Desired Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • Completion of advanced clinical course
  • Handle with Care certification
  • Dysrhythmia course certification
  • Ability to act as resource/mentor in the area of safe patient handling/de-escalation techniques/point of care testing
  • Advanced clinical skills and certifications
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team
  • Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life
  • Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques
  • Ability to recognize and monitor individual patient's EKG
  • Ability to recognize and report hemodynamic instability and critical changes in patient condition
  • IV Insertion competency including IV insertion using Ultrasound guidance
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen collection including T&S, Blood Cultures
  • Competency regarding use of advanced medical equipment such as splinting, advanced rehab therapy equipment, trauma care, IABP, rapid infuser, central line and A line set ups
  • Advanced skills in bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization
  • Skills regarding management of aggressive behavior and de-escalation techniques
  • Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role
  • Ability to apply knowledge of personal care and hygiene to patients in need on a daily basis
  • Ability to take steps to reduce risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors
  • Ability to act as transfer and positioning coach/trainer for specific patient populations
  • Ability to act as a coach/trainer to others team members
  • Ability to act as a coach/trainer to others following formal training guidelines
  • Ability to act as a resource for training new staff on various supplies and equipment use
