Job Summary
Provide bedside patient care as a Patient Care Technician (PCA) in the ICU/critical care setting under RN supervision. Duties include assisting with activities of daily living, mobility support, monitoring and reporting vital signs, ensuring patient safety with gait belts and bed/chair alarms, maintaining clean and orderly patient surroundings, and supporting the care team. Requires current Basic Life Support certification and knowledge of infection control; highlights include teamwork, compassionate bedside manner, ability to handle high workload, and completion of PCA education program or equivalently recognized credentials. Night shift, full-time position in Indianapolis, IN with competitive benefits and opportunities for development.
Required Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or completion of IU Health PCA education program
- Ability to provide activities of daily living, mobility assistance, and ongoing observation
- Ability to obtain vital signs and report abnormalities to RN or charge nurse
- Knowledge of infection control principles and aseptic techniques
- Ability to read and perform basic math; organize tasks; manage high workload
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a patient care team
- Proficiency with procedures, equipment, and software related to patient care activities
- Ability to withstand high levels of stress and maintain concentration in a fast-paced environment
