Job Summary

Provide bedside care in the emergency department by anticipating patient needs, assisting with meals and hygiene, and ensuring safety with gait belts and alarms. Obtain vital signs, report behavioral changes to the primary RN, and maintain constant awareness of patient status. This full-time night shift role requires current Basic Life Support certification, proficiency in infection control, and the ability to manage a high workload under frequent interruptions. Required Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program
  • Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served
  • Up to date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills
  • Constant mental awareness and the ability to withstand a high level of tension and stress
  • Ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions and variable noise levels
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems encountered
  • Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within a limited time for completion
  • Knowledge of procedures; equipment; software and standards related to patient care activities that non-licensed role performs
  • Knowledge of principles of infection control
  • Ability to perform physically demanding; repetitious movements
  • Ability to read and perform basic math
  • Ability to organize tasks and attend to details
  • Knowledge of principles of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection of patients; self; and others
