Job Summary

Patient Care Technician (PCA) in the Adult Medical Unit at IU Health. Responsibilities include bedside patient support, assisting with meals, helping with walking, baths, and linens, and providing clinical assistance to the bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities. Maintains patient safety using gait belts and bed/chair alarms, communicates effectively with team, and adheres to infection control practices in a fast-paced hospital setting. Requires current BLS certification and ability to manage high workload with strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Required Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or attainment during the IU Health PCA education program
  • Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served
  • Up-to-date knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to withstand a high level of tension and stress in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain concentration with interruptions and variable noise levels
  • Ability to exercise judgment and initiative in problem resolution
  • Ability to manage a high workload within limited time
  • Knowledge of procedures, equipment, software and standards related to patient care activities performed by non-licensed role (PCA/PCR/PCI)
  • Knowledge of infection control principles
  • Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitious movements
  • Ability to read and perform basic math
  • Ability to organize tasks and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection of patients, self, and others
