Job Summary
Perform clinical tasks within the Patient Care Technician scope of practice, including peripheral IV insertion, administering EKGs, phlebotomy, fingerstick glucose testing, and urinary catheter management under RN supervision. Assist patients with activities of daily living such as hygiene, ambulation, transfers, and toileting while monitoring continuous telemetry alarms and promptly reporting vital signs, intake/output, and patient symptoms. Conduct purposeful hourly rounding to ensure patient comfort and safety, accurately document all care in the electronic health record, and adhere to infection control protocols and institutional policies. Full-time night shift (7:30 PM – 8:00 AM) with every other weekend requirement; pay range $19.00 – $30.40/hr.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Current, active certification as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) by the District of Columbia Board of Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment
- Demonstrated attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task
- Every other weekend required
Desired Qualifications
- Six (6) months or more of prior PCT experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Experience in cardiology, telemetry, or medical-surgical nursing units
- Experience caring for patients on continuous cardiac monitoring in an acute care setting
