Job Summary
Provides basic patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse in the Emergency Department, performing ADLs, assisting with patient transport and mobility, collecting specimens, monitoring vital signs and glucose, and documenting actions in the medical record. Responsibilities include wound prevention and prevention of hospital-acquired conditions, ensuring safety with infection-control practices and safety devices, coordinating with nursing staff for admissions, discharges, and transfers, and maintaining unit readiness through clerical and equipment-related tasks. The role supports a wide range of patient populations (adult, medical/surgical, geriatric, telemetry, cardiac, neonatal, infant, toddler, school-age, adolescent, and psychiatric care) and requires accurate communication, basic math for intake/output, and proficient computer navigation.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of C.N.A. course (or complete within four months of hire date)
- Completion of C.N.A course if currently in high school
- Computer experience
- Health care experience within the last five years
- Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days
- Child Abuse Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services within 180 Days
- Certified Nursing Assistant within 120 Days
- Emergency First Response and Choking within 90 days of hire
- Restraint training completed after hire
- MOAB within 12 months of hire
