Job Summary
As a Part-Time Night Patient Care Technician (PCA) at IU Health in Indianapolis, you will provide bedside caregiver support under the direction of the registered nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, mobility, meals, linen and gown changes), obtaining vital signs and reporting abnormalities to the RN or charge nurse, promoting patient safety with gait belts and alarms, and maintaining a clean, orderly patient environment. The role emphasizes compassionate, team-based care in a fast-paced hospital setting, with emphasis on infection control, safety, physical stamina, and the ability to prioritize tasks under high workload. Required Qualifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or completion of the IU Health PCA education program
- Knowledge of patient care activities appropriate to the age and developmental level of patients served
- Ability to read and perform basic math
- Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to withstand high levels of tension and stress and maintain concentration amid interruptions and noise
- Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time
- Knowledge of procedures, equipment, software, and standards related to PCA/PCR/PCI patient care activities
- Knowledge of infection control principles
- Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive movements
- Ability to organize tasks and attend to details
- Knowledge of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques to prevent infection of patients and self
- Non-licensed role responsibilities in patient care activities
- Suicide prevention requirements
