Job Summary
Patient Care Technician builds on CNA skills to support the Registered Nurse in all aspects of direct/indirect patient care on the unit. Responsibilities span admission/transfers/discharges, vital signs, monitoring and recording patient data, phlebotomy, newborn and infant care, catheter/drain management, assisting with meals, mobility and hygiene, preparing rooms for assessments, transporting patients, responding to emergencies, and ensuring safety and comfort. Requires CNA certification or enrollment in nursing program with basic clinical rotations; CPR/BLS; high school diploma with preferred college-level nursing education; strong patient-facing skills and ability to work under RN supervision on a hospital unit.
Required Qualifications
- CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations
- CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
- Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
- High school diploma required
- One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred
- Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff
