Job Summary

Patient Care Technician assists the Registered Nurse with both direct and indirect patient care across the Northwestern Medicine system. Responsibilities include admissions/transfers/discharges, monitoring vital signs, recording intake/output, performing phlebotomy, applying fetal monitor equipment, newborn care, post-operative support, patient mobility, safety measures, equipment setup, specimen collection, and responding to patient needs and emergencies. Requires CNA certification or active nursing student status, CPR/BLS recognition, and a high school diploma with preferred college or nursing education; associates or bachelor’s degree is a plus. The role emphasizes patient-first care, adherence to policies, and collaboration with nursing staff to ensure quality patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations
  • CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
  • Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
  • High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred
  • Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff
