Job Summary
The Patient Care Technician assists and supports the RN in direct and indirect patient care across the unit, performing tasks such as admission/transfer/discharge support, vital signs, intake/output, newborn care, phlebotomy, glucose checks, EKG, fetal monitor setup, ambulation, post-procedure care, patient transport, and basic life support. Requires CNA certification or enrollment in nursing school, CPR/BLS, high school diploma with preferred college experience; associates or bachelor’s degree preferred. Focus on compassionate, patient-first care within Northwestern Medicine facilities.
Required Qualifications
- CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations
- CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
- Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
- High school diploma required
- One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred
