Job Summary
Patient Care Technician on 11W unit provides direct and indirect patient care, assists RN with admissions/transfers/discharges, performs vital signs, monitors cardiac/oximetry, obtains EKG and capillary blood glucose, performs phlebotomy, newborn care, feeds and assists with meals, maintains patient room cleanliness and safety, and participates in unit activities and quality improvement while upholding the Patient First philosophy. Requires CNA certification or enrollment in nursing program, CPR/BLS, and high school diploma; associates/bachelor’s degree preferred. Part-time days on 11W unit in Chicago, IL within Northwestern Medicine system.
Required Qualifications
- CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations
- CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
- Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
- High school diploma required
- One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred
- Previous experience in a health care setting preferred with a demonstrated ability to relate to patients, family, nursing and medical staff
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
