Job Summary

Provide direct patient care and daily living support under RN direction, including assistance with activities of daily living, meal setup, skin care, and safe patient transport. Support patient monitoring by obtaining vital signs, pulse oximetry, and 12-lead ECGs while promptly reporting status changes. Prepare, use, and maintain equipment such as cardiac monitors and suction systems, ensuring a clean, safe environment. Promote safety through hourly rounding, responding to call lights, and using Safe Patient Handling principles. Document care accurately in the electronic medical record and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team. Participate in ongoing education and mentor new Clinical Assistants. This role involves direct contact with adult oncology patients at Mount Auburn Hospital, supported by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of CA, CNA, PCT, MA, EMT or equivalent experience
  • Certification as a nursing assistant required upon hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Red Cross required upon hire
  • Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak and write accurately
  • Knowledge of simple math
  • Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self according to the safe patient handling guidelines
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, visitors, and personnel
  • Must be available for rotating weekends
  • Must be available for rotating shifts or extended hours based on operational and patient care needs
  • Exposure to hazardous drugs and biohazards; adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling policies required
  • Walking, standing, and lifting up to 35 lbs
  • Must follow Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) safe patient handling and ergonomics practices

Desired Qualifications

  • Clinical rotation or simulation lab completion for nursing fundamentals
